The 3rd Dharma’s meeting in America: A FEW THOUGHT ABOUT MEDITATION ON BODHICITTA

Dear Guru,

I am writing to share my thoughts regarding our latest US Sangha meeting where we discussed your 5th Mind Dharma, Meditation on Bodhicitta. This monthly Sangha meeting, in my humble opinion, was a delightful success.

I have been working on this letter for nearly a week now. Often, I thought I had some free time to pull out my laptop and write my thoughts. Again and again, interruptions happened. There have been important phone calls. There have been visitors stopping by. There have been computer issues. In short, life has happened. Life of a normal, busy, working human living a normal life of family, friends, work, and home. However, while I have experienced constant delays in the task of writing you this letter, something else has been happening.

Let me back up. During the past week while attempting to write this letter, I have sat down many times, “May all sentient beings have the Bodhgaya,” to write this letter. I have taken many sips of my coffee, “May all sentient beings drink the Buddha’s amrita,” while thinking about what to write. I have answered the door when visitors arrive, “may all sentient beings open the door that leads to the city of Liberation.” And I have shut the door behind them, “May all sentient beings close the door that leads to the lower realms.”  I have had computer issues that were frustrating, “May all sentient beings’ suffering be pacified.”

The other thing that happened during this week was ordinary life with its ordinary life tasks. And to mine, and all sentient beings,’ blessing, we have six spiritual practices developed by our Holy Guru that can turn our everyday normal activities into meditation and spiritual activity. Practices that can turn everyday normal activities into something special that brings pure mind and merit to its practitioners along with many other benefits.

So, I want to begin by expressing my deepest gratitude for your wonderful words that started us off in our meeting. These words can be heard, and read, in your article “Letter from Tantra House: Don’t Worry About It!” As one participant later expressed to me, we could “feel your grace strongly.” Your words are always very inspiring, wise, and thought provoking. I am always deeply moved at your loving kindness you have for your students and disciples. I also can hear your deep compassion for all of us. As well as your joy for our successes. You deeply care and you constantly encourage us, and I want to thank you! You see our struggles. You see our suffering. You work tirelessly to make practicing Dharma; to make living daily life with Bodhicitta; to make gaining merit, easy and attainable to all of us, regardless of our busy lives of family, career, social-life, and other daily demands. You and your teachings are a blessing to all who strive to follow the Noble Eightfold Path.

During our meeting of Meditation on Bodhicitta, we had several people share. Our beloved teacher Violet shared a most wonderful story on how Guru’s Six Practices have benefited her life in every area. She shared that Meditation on Bodhicitta is one of her favorites of the six because of how easy and often it can be applied. Because the sixteen prayers taught by our Holy Guru are tied to normal, daily activities like eating, waking up, getting dressed, opening a door, etc. they can be used all day and night. Violet spoke about how using Guru’s six practices has benefited her have a more fulfilling life with less suffering and more joy. It has benefited her family life, professional life, and personal life.

Tantra Mahacitta

We also had the delight of having the Head of Buddhism at Ananda University, professor Avinash share with us. In response to an inquiry made by our Dharma friend Vincent, he was extremely helpful in understanding how, and why, Guru’s meditation on Bodhicitta is such a powerful tool. Guru’s meditation on Bodhicitta helps in developing compassion for all sentient beings, developing our Buddha nature and gaining merit through our daily activities. We are very honored to have someone with professor Avinash’s knowledge join us in our meetings. We all have much to benefit from his participation and I truly look forward to seeing him, and hearing from him, in future meetings.

Dharma friend Mark

Our Dharma friend Mark shared how wonderful his experience traveling to Vietnam and meeting Guru was. He also expressed his delight in having many tools to work with from Guru’s practices. Because of his memory, he shared that he was able to use Guru’s 4th Mind Dharma, the Lotus Walking Dharani throughout his day. He found this practice to be extremely beneficial to him. While we all should strive to practice all six of Guru’s spiritual practices, it is wonderful to know that we can begin where we are in life and use what we can and add on to those practices over time.

We also had wonderful sharing and input from several other attendees and while I do not want to leave anyone out, I do not want to make this letter too long. I will just close by saying that I found everyone’s questions, their sharing, and their input during the meeting extremely helpful and it brings me great joy to see so many of us coming together each month to encourage and assist each other along our journey in putting Guru’s six spiritual methods to use in our daily lives so that we can enjoy the benefits of being on the right path, gaining merit and reducing suffering.

Praise and honor to the Three Jewels of the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha!

Praise and honor to our holy Guru Thinley Nguyen Thanh!

Prayers for good health and long life for our Guru!

May all sentient beings awaken to the nature of their true being!

Om Mani Padme Hum

    Dear Tantra Mahacitta,
Thank you very much for your sharing!
I am very proud and glad that you have shown a good example of a Pure Mind Yoga practitioner who is leading your Dharma brothers with pure faith and Guru devotion rooted in your right understanding after reading a lot of teachings on chanhtuduy.com. I am also glad to reminisce on the third Dharma meeting, I hope that you all will keep my words in your mind and remain positive and determined to stay focused on practicing Dharma to gain more benefits for you and other sentient beings. I am proud to see no matter how far my learners and disciples are, they have been gaining a lot of benefits in their lives and speaking by their own experiences. As Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once said: “All theory is gray, my friend. But forever green is the tree of life”. It is my happiness to see how my learners and disciples maintain a “green” life by my teachings, which gives me more motivation while taking care of your spiritual destinies. Keep up the great work!
May all legitimate wishes come true by the blessings of Avalokiteshvara through the delivery of Guru.
    Om mani padme hum.

    Dear Tantra Mahacitta,
It’s lovely to read your sharing from the third Dharma meeting of Tantra House in the US. It touches me with your humbleness and your devotion towards Guru. These are the wealth that a Buddhism should accumulate. Happily, we are more prosperous day by day in that aspect under Guru’s guidance.
Thank you for sharing the idea of practising the sixteen prayers diligently while writing this article, together with other Dharma brothers’ sharing. It motivates me to practise and apply Guru’s six methods more in my life.
We are grateful to have Guru guiding us on the right path to gain merit while still enjoying our lives. May the fragrance of Puremind Dharma benefit more and more people.
May Guru have good health and longevity for the benefit of all sentient beings.
May the Covid-19 pandemic will come to an end soon.
    Om mani padme hum.

  5. Cao Diệu Khải Nguyên says:

    Dear holy Guru,
I am glad to read this letter. It’s wonderful to know that the international Dharmas meetings have not only successfully occurred, but also brought many benefits to the attendees.
I also sympathize with the sharing of Tantra Mahacitta in his struggle to complete the letter, having to put up with so many distractions. Still, he did not give up and here his words are all genuine, from intention to experience, and effort. I suddenly have a realization that life is so full of distractions, but at the end of the day if we don’t let them take us away; if we can still find ourselves remembering and caring for our true seed of liberation, even though for this task we are not forced at all, then it becomes the greatest and most genuine experience ever.
My gratitude to Guru who always understands and appeases our fear, giving us the utmost advice in our moment of struggle.
I pray for the health and longevity of Guru for the sake of all sentient beings,
My thanks to Tantra Mahacitta for composing this letter.
May all sentient beings achieve the happiness of Buddha’s nature.
    Om Mani Padme Hum.
